The Season of Lent
Would you like to fast in a new way?
As we enter the third week of Lent, here are a few helpful suggestions of how we can fast in different ways. It is never too late to give something up for Lent. Nor is there a rule that prevents us from changing our fasting during Lent.
Are you looking for a different way to fast this? Why not try some of these?
Fast from hurting words and say kind words
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude
Fast from anger and be filled with patience
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope
Fast from worries and trust in God
Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity
Fast from pressures and be prayerful
Fast from bitterness and fill your heart with joy
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others
Fast from grudges and be reconciled
Fast from words and be silent so you can listen
– Attributed to Pope Francis
As we enter the second week of Lent, here are a few challenging questions to help us stay focused during this forty day journey.
What cravings have a hold on me?
What would be truly liberating to leave behind?
Short of an addiction, have I become dependent on a particular food, drink, substance, or activity?
What would be truly challenging for me to give up during Lent?
What is Jesus asking of me?
Becoming, doing, and changing,
whatever it is that is blocking
the fullness of life in us right now.
